April 20th we got up early and headed down to Lake Powell for the day. This is one of the things we really enjoy doing as a family. The weather wasn't nice enough for us to spend the night so we went down and back the same day. In the Spring the fishing is usually really good. The kids fished all day long and caught a lot of fish. It is always fun to see how independent they are getting. Haylie puts the worm on her own hook and since I don't like my hands smelling like fish, both of them are really good about taking the fish I catch off the hook and throwing them in the live well. This usually results in happy squeals and laughter as the bigger fish swim frantically around the live well for a few seconds. Of course the kids can't leave the fish alone. They kneel down try to catch them with their hands. The more fish there are the easier they are to catch.
And so it begins. Haylie is "rigged up" and trying to claim the "first fish" prize.
Brody has gotten really good at steering the boat with the trolling motor. This isn't easy to do because you have to do everything with your foot. It didn't take him long to become the best co-pilot a dad could ask for. Shane drives us to the place on the lake where we like to start fishing and then Brody takes overs and guides us along the shoreline or wherever else we may need to go.
It doesn't take long an the first fish are caught. Such proud little fishermen!
Patience pays off. Brody says you have to wiggle your bum to get the fish to bite. Whatever he did...it worked!
Sometimes Haylie needs a break from fishing so she plays with the tackle. Funny little thing. She will sit and talk to/for them and keeps herself quite entertained.
Getting a little instruction from dad.
Shane cleaning some of the fish while we were still on the lake. There was a big bag full of fillets.
Brody still going strong. Most of the fish he caught were Crappie but he also caught a catfish.
His face says it all! Best catch of the day....Walleye!
Great little fishermen. They are welcome on my boat anytime!
Great days "work"!
So tired after working so hard. They didn't last very long after climbing in the pick-up to head home. Within minutes they were asleep. Nothing better than a fun filled day with kids!
