One thing we like to do as a family is to go out on Parker Mountain for the Sage Grouse Hunt. This started years ago and now the kids really look forward to it every year. We try to take time off two weekends in a row to go and enjoy some time as a family. We camp in the same spot every year and the kiddos love going back to the campsite to discover the treasures they purposefully left there the year before.
After we get camp set up the kids get to enjoy play time. There is always some type of shooting, carving, whittling, or rock hunting activity.
Love this man that gets us out and away from everyday life!
Of course no bird camp would be complete without dogs. The kids thought Nanna looked like she was in jail.
Some of Haylie's pretty rocks she found.
She loves to look for flint.
Right before dark we took a ride in the Rhino to go scout out some of the watering holes and check for tracks. On our way back this is the "beautiful sky" we saw. We are so very fortunate to live where we live and be able to experience sights like this quite frequently.
Back at the trailer and ready for bed Haylie had to get her reading done so out comes the electronics.
We were up early the next morning and were off. Shane and Brody always managed to stay in front of Haylie and I. She was easily distract and sometimes she just needed a little rest.
Haylie started out being a happy little hiker but as the day wore on she had had enough of the hiking. She got further behind, and a lot more grouchy. She didn't even look for points. She got on the dirt road and was absolutely disgusted that her dad and Brody were back at the truck and hadn't come to get us.
Happy Hiker
Tired girl
Nothing that a Daddy's love can't fix!
Savanna was so happy to be out and doing what she loves.
Hayie kept a good eye on her.
The trees were really pretty with all the different colors.
Once we got back to camp I started dinner and the kids talked their dad into helping them build a fort. By the time they were finished it was really neat. They even used bark off old trees to "sweep" the floor and get out all of the dead leaves, rocks, and sticks.
They could hardly wait to show me what they had done. I was so happy with the teamwork they showed and how well they worked together to accomplish what they wanted to do.
Off again
Haylie decided that instead of hiking this time she would stay and get her reading done.
Brody was a good sport and he didn't slow down. Even when he was tired.
Gunner doing his job.
Peas and Pod??? I think yes!
In the truck and headed back to camp.
Once we returned to camp Midge got out her BB Gun and went on the hunt.
She shot herself a nice size "chickmunk" and was oh so proud.
2 birds down. So excited!
The kiddos are super worried that Nanna won't be able to go on very more hunting trips with us so they wanted several pictures taken with her this year. She has been a good dog and is all heart. They will definitely miss her when she's gone.
Gunner did really well for us this year. He pointed and held his point for long periods of time.
Their faces tell all. They love spending time with their family!
